My Week

Okay so this has been one of the craziest weeks ever. It all started a few months ago I was browsing the Prensa Libra ( guat newspaper) and suddenly came across the notice for the babies Abandonment(from '06) . I was SO shocked. I quickly translated it and sure enough it was about them. This article said the name of the farm where they were born (they were born in a barn) and also the name and address of the person who owns the farm. At this point I was still leary if the story we heard about the twins birth was even true. While living in Guat our facilitator never would talk about it and acted down right fishy at times so we had begun to doubt that was the story. Who is born in a barn this day in age anyway !!?? The exact story was that the birthmother came and knocked on the farmers door and asked for a place to stay for the night. She didn't know them . So they agreed and sent her back to the maids quarters/barn. I guess that night at 8:00 she gave birth to Arianna and 8 :10 she gave birth to Brayden. The next morning she was gone. She just left them on the farmers doorstep and went on her way. But anyways back to "today" .. Immediately we started wondering if God was opening doors for us to go investigate. At the same time I was scared to death with the thought . Scared of what I might and/or might not find out . With the mood of Guat adoptions I knew it was a risk ... a small one but none the less a risk. So what do I do ??? Do I let it go and miss my chance to maybe find out info that could be valuable later in life for the twins ??? Or do we go ??? Oh it was difficult decision . In the middle of all of our wonderings and prayers Marks mission trip came up so that is when we decided all of the doors were open and we would go foward with it on his first trip down. So that brings us to this week. The time came quickly and Mark left Monday and I was oh so nervous but I knew he wasn't going there until wednesday so I still had time to think and pray. Or did I ???? He calls Monday night and say "plans have changed I will be going there tomorrow" PANIC !!!! I was so scared and nervous .... so as one final confirmation I called out Agency Director and told her about it and asked her what she thought .... she said DO IT !!!! So again more confirmation . I knew that I had to try and keep myself busy on Tuesday so I didn't lose my mind. Tuesday was one of the most emotional days of my life. Knowing that Mark was going to the exact place that the twins were born brings back ALL of the emotions . Thinking of the birthmother ... did she have help or just give birth to twins in a barn by herself ???? How was the first hours for the twins ?? Did she feed them ??? What time in the morning did she drop them off on the farmers doorstep and how long till he found them ?? Oh the emotions !! Where is she now ... I she still there .... did she come back ???? So I emailed Mark all of these questions to ask the Farmer. At this point I am still wondering does this farm even exist ?? Will the bmother be there ?? (which I am 99 % sure shes not there ) Still its the unknown that is scary. So anyways Mark headed there about 10 am on Tuesday and its about a 4-5 hour ride from Guatemala City . As soon as they entered the nearby villiage of where the famer is supposed to live the translator starts asking around if anyone knows where he lives. The villiage people immediatly said yes and pointed them in the direction of the farm. So at this point its feeling VERY real to Mark . And he is starting to feel very scared. The feeling they were getting from the people in the villiage was very hostile. You could tell they hadn't seen a gringo in about 100 yrs. But anyways they continued on there way to the farm. They arrive and nervously get out of the the car and go knock on the door. A lady (the farmers wife) answers the door , takes one look and shuts it to a crack. They proceed to ask her if she knows anything about some twins that were born there about 2 yrs ago. She starts to get VERY hostile and says "I dont know anything" very nervously. At this point they started questioning more but she continued to get more and more hostile. So Mark and the translator decided it was time to get the heck out of there before they got killed. Mark said it was the scariest thing he has ever encountered. Just the feeling of the whole villiage. So they quickly snapped some pictures and headed on there way. Then it hit them ... they came all this way and found out NOTHING . Or did they ?? Then they realized that they actually found out alot. Just knowing the farm exists and seeing the barn where the twins were born confirmed everything we have been wondering. Mark said it was NOT a wasted trip. It was in fact very emotional .... Him and the translator did not speak the whole way back to Guatemala City . They were so taken aback by the twins humble beginning they had no words. So now that brings us to tonight ... Mark gets back and I get to see the pictures of where the twins were born. I am so excited !! Of course I will share them with you all as soon as I get them !!! I hope this all makes sense. I am not a "writer" but wanted to document this experience ~~

This is the sign to the village where the twins were born. There are about 10 houses in the village

The twins were born in the very back tin part of this house. More to come .. Mark could only email a few.

All I can say is WOW and thanks for sharing. It is great to have some confirmation of the events of their birth. And pictures too. My son was also born in Jutiapa so I find it interesting to here about your experience there.

This is a great story. We were given a lot of information about Nora's birth mother and siblings. We have their names and even an address but not a birth story. I think it's great that you have that much information about the birth. I wonder if the farmer's wife knows the birth mother. If she didn't know her it looks like she wouldn't mind telling the story to Mark. She may be trying to protect someone. I hope you are able to find more information.

Wow! Katie! What an amazing story! I bet you were on edge! I agree, it does not sound like a wasted trip at all. How awesome for you (and the twins) to get pictures of the farm.
Poor Mark and the translator, that sounds all very frightening.
Thanks for sharing such an amazing story with us and I pray for your peace of mind and that you're able to discern and "make sense" of the information you have gathered and the additional questions still weighing on your heart.
You're a beautiful and strong Momma for your babies!

Wow, Katie! What an emotional rollercoaster for your family this week. My kiddos bmoms have been often on my mind the past few months, and I can't even imagine the emotional impact of seeing where your beautiful babes were born. While you might not have gotten all the information you wanted, you now have more pieces of the puzzle for your children.

Keep the faith

Wow! What an amazing opportunity. I'm sure the twins will appreciate any information you have. I'm sure that was quite frightening for Mark - and for you - being so far away!

Katie... what an amazing pilgrimage back to the start of your beautiful twins' lives... I know they will love you and Mark for trying to find out as much as you could for them.

Their birth was a miracle... plain and simple. I think they have some bigger purpose in this world than we may ever know... and those smiles... wow!

Katie, that is unbelievable. How all of that fell into place and that Mark had the courage to follow up and go there. It definitely was not wasted. To have photos and everything. And now you know it is true. That will be amazing to share with them when they are older. How emotional. I have goose bumps.
